About Susan Ni Dhubhlaoich

Together with Amy O’Brien, Susan is a founder member of Mandala Yoga Dublin. She has been practicing yoga for over 15 years. Susan is a certified instructor since 2009 and, always the curious student, has completed many (many!) trainings since then.

‘‘For me yoga absolutely began as a simple ‘stretch + sweat’ endeavour. I stumbled one wet Friday evening into a stifling Bikram yoga class 16 years ago and…. I just kept going back.  My practice began as an exercise in stretching my teflon-tight, marathon-running hamstrings.  Little did I realise then how much yoga would, over time, stretch my mind, my body and my world view, in so many weird and wonderful ways.

The strength and flexibility I have built in my physical body today is nothing compared to the mental and emotional strength, courage and flexibility I have gained and continue to receive from my yoga practice’’.

Certified to teach Bikram, Vinyasa Flow, Yin yoga and an empowering Kundalini-inspired sequence called Envision Yoga, Susan has taught yoga internationally, in the US and Asia and loves to travel, teach and practice a range of yoga styles. Susan is also a yin and  meditation teacher.

She likes to weave all these different styles and traditions into her own practice and classes.

Susan likes to create intelligent flows and mixed-style classes that are built on intention (sankalpa). As someone fascinated by the power of words, she is fond of the old quote. As a qualified massage therapist, she is a self-confessed anatomy nerd but tries to keep that quiet.

Yoga Off the Mat

Today ‘My Yoga’ is so much more about what happens OFF the mat than what is happening for me on the mat. I continue to be amazed at how regular practice helps me to be grateful, contented and to #findthebalance.

Having started out as a pure ‘hot yoga junkie’! in the last few years I have found myself increasingly drawn ‘yinside’ and am enjoying that more contemplative, meditative side of my practice.

Surrender to what is.. Let go of what was. Have faith in what will be. - Sonia Ricotti - Shoelace

I believe everybody’s journey with yoga is their own. Yoga is an amazing mirror that allows us to see where we are at any given time. And how we can be at our best – both in good times and bad.  My greatest pleasure is to see a student return after their first class.

My mantra for myself is ”Stay Humble. Stay Curious. Never Give Up.”

When Susan is not practicing, teaching or falling out of postures, she dabbles in a range of off-the-mat endeavours.  #pottering #Gaeilge #zenwisdom #poetry #wordsmithing #tcm #tarotwisdom #enneagram #comhaontasglas #minimalism #vino #starwars
